Shawn’s Favorites Trio

shawn's faves trio

This was a project I created for Shawn for his birthday, which was yesterday. This trio is comprised of three of Shawn’s favorite things as only stitching and felt could represent them! These favorites are the camera, a Mac look-alike computer, and an iPhone. The iPhone was inspired by an embroidery pattern* from a class I took this spring with Elsie Flannigan. I love the way this turned out and Shawn was quite happy as well. This was so simple to make and came together quite quickly, which was good since I didn’t decide until almost the last minute that I was going to make it for him! Now he just has to decide where to put it, here in the new office space, or in his space at work! So much fun! Can’t wait to make one for myself….hmmmm…maybe I will have Shawn make it for me! Ha!

*I would link to the patterns themselves, but they were part of a past class, that we had to pay for and it is password protected…wouldn’t feel right giving that info out to someone who didn’t take the class! So NOT cool!

LoveBirds

My dear cousin Bert married his sweetheart Leah this past Saturday. As part of their wedding present, I stitched them a piece called “LoveBirds” and framed it for their new home. I hope they like it, Leah has been asking me for a stitched gift ever since I made my sister a dinosaur jacket for her birthday in January.

For the piece I drew the scene myself and stitched it onto a hand towel that I bought in the dollar bin at Target (it was for the 4th of July, but I just cut the stars off the end of it!). This was my first time using the split stitch on a project and I quite like it. It’s a bit tricky for small things (like the hearts, which I don’t like on this project) but overall, a stitch worth using! The cloth for the handtowel was a little more delicate than I am used to. I bought a few more in other colors to try some things out for myself, but I am not sure I will use them. I definitely don’t think I will be using them again for gifts. The frame is a Ribba frame from Ikea, my favorite kind of frames…so nice looking, but reasonably priced. The photo of the framed piece has a weird line in it, that’s from where the towel ended when I folded it to frame it, don’t fret, I fixed that before I gave it to them!
