wedding goodness: The Proposal
Well I promised I would be back with details about how Shawn proposed to me. So here goes…
My car was in the shop so Shawn picked me up from work and told me ahead of time that he had a special treat for dinner after he picked me up. I was beat so I took a nap on the way to our destination and woke up downtown. I do love downtown Baltimore. This is a place that has a special place with Shawn and I as it is where we had our first date and where we spent many hours together enjoying the street performers for a photo project he worked on.
I didn’t really ask a lot of questions about dinner, I wanted to be fully surprised for our night out. We headed through Harborplace and Shawn threw around a few ideas for dinner, so as we headed to the restaurant, Shawn suggested that we could get Photobooth pictures taken while we were here. We both knew that Harborplace has a Photobooth and we have gotten photos taken there before, this is one of our “things” so of course I was excited and totally on board.
Shawn said that he would like to get our pictures done first, so we headed to the Photobooth and stepped in to get our photos taken. We made a few funny faces and stepped out to wait for our little strip of photos to be printed. As we were waiting, we chatted and I was distracted by all of the shop windows around me. Apparently, I was more distracted than I thought I was!
When our photos had printed, Shawn was quick to pick them up and when I asked to see them, he told me no! I couldn’t believe it so I thought they were messed up or something, so I asked again, and received the same answer! So I grabbed them out of his hand, and to my surprise, and confusion, there were no pictures of us on the strips. But there were four pictures of Shawn, each one with him holding a different sign, together reading “Will You Marry Me?” And I looked up to find him on one knee with the most gorgeous ring in his hand!!
He had gone down earlier and taken his photos in the Photobooth and then planted them while I was window shopping and not paying attention! It was so romantic and unexpected and totally perfect for us! As it turned out, he didn’t really have a dinner plan so we called his family and had dinner with them after we visited my parents.
I want to post the Photobooth pictures, but Shawn has them so that will have to wait until another post! (Sorry!)
This is a photo of us at dinner, after we got engaged. Yeah, it’s a little blurry and not perfect, but it’s us and we both look so happy!

on a lighter note…
Two years ago, Shawn moved in with me and we spent our first Thanksgiving together. Well sort of. It was more like the anti-Thanksgiving that we spent together. We ate fried chicken and went around town taking photos instead of spending time with our families. It was a down and out Thanksgiving, we were both in mourning over life’s disappointments and let downs. Our mental states were everything but stellar. It was a miserable day. However, we started a new tradition that day. Or at least I did. I had never heard this “song” before, but it was the best part of that dark Thanksgiving two years ago. (Well, maybe excepting the fried chicken). It has now become one of our Thanksgiving traditions. Without further adieu, I present to you…
